The Malga Fane. A piece of history. Simply irresistible.

Youā€™ve never seen anything like this before, we promise. And never tasted as good, either. But letā€™s start from the beginning. At the far end of the Val di Valles lies the Malga Fane. A lot of people say itā€™s one of the most beautiful spots in South Tyrol. We say: without a doubt! There are more than 35 huts, barns and shelters up here. One of the old mountain huts is ours. We are incredibly proud to be part of this vibrant piece of cultural history. Intrigued? Then put on your hiking boots and letā€™s go!

Bergjause snack on the Malga Fane. Typical South Tyrol!

Mountain cheese, self-smoked bacon, pickled vegetables from the farm garden, with a glass of wine. Experience all this and a little bit more at this summerā€™s ā€œMasl Bergjauseā€. Discover the extraordinary beauty of the Malga Fane and treat yourself to a delectable journey through time and taste. At 9:30 am, we set off together and leisurely make our way to our hut. Weā€™ll be there in just two hours. Of course, weā€™ll unveil the captivating tale about the Malga Fane and its thrilling past. Rumour has it that in the Middle Ages, this place was inhabited by ā€œoutcastsā€. But there is also an abundance of stories to share about the South Tyrolean mountain farming traditions, the nearby peaks and the incredible flora and fauna. Around 1:30 pm, we start heading back home. We want everybody to experience our Bergjause snack at Malga Fane. Thatā€™s why we provide a free shuttle service to and from the hut.

Ancient cultural landscapes. Traditions that shape a landscape.

An alpine pasture is never just a mountain hut. An alpine pasture is a world of its own, with its own set of rules and customs. What you need to realise is that our mountains remain as we know and love them only if the alpine pastures stay actively managed. Only on an alpine pasture is the silence so wonderfully loud and the cheese bread so delectably tasty. No one knows exactly how long the Malga Fane has been at the end of the Valles valley. Legend has it that during the Middle Ages, the Malga Fane was the place where they would exile those afflicted with the plague and cholera. But, thereā€™s one thing that still holds true today ā€“ mountain air is healthy! Take a deep breath and immerse yourself in the vibrant history of a centuries-old alpine village in the most beautiful corner of the world.
